Beaches

Cala Battistoni, one of Costa Smeralda’s best beaches, is the beach Baja Sardinia was founded around. It’s a slice of sea with clear blue waters, fine white sand offering all services. Near the free beach there are the services of rental chairs and sun beds, snack bar and restaurant.

Cala Granu: a beautiful cove sheltered from the wind with fine white sand with water ranging from emerald green tdeep blue.

Capriccioli, two beaches surrounded by rocks transformed by the wind that have created some fantastic shapes. Next to the free beach there is the rental of deckchairs and sun loungers.

Spiaggia del Principe: is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Smeralda. Its name is linked tthe supposed preference of the Prince Aga Khan for this corner of paradise. This large arch of sand is surrounded by rocks and Mediterranean scrub. The sand and the granite give it its characteristic “emerald” colour.

Romazzino: certainly one of the most beautiful beaches on this charming and exclusive stretch of coast, this beach with white sand tinged with pink shades is surrounded by breath-taking views of Mediterranean scrub.

Rena Bianca with fine sand and shallow water with a sandy sea floor that make the water emerald green and iridescent turquoise. Protected by lush green Mediterranean scrub.

Liscia Ruja: surrounded completely by vegetation and made up of a series of small coves with fine golden sand, it is one of the largest beaches on the Costa Smeralda.

Piccolo Pevero: a small yet enchanting beach with fine white sand and crystal-clear water that makes it appear transparent in contrast with the intense green of the surrounding juniper trees.

Porto Sole, just a stone’s throw from Baja Sardinia, with clear blue shallow water making it ideal for families with children.

Cannigione: white sand and very handy given the numerous car parks in the vicinity. Many excursions to the islands of the Maddalena Archipelago leave from the port.  There is a small private beach area on the sand with sunbeds and umbrellas and there are several bars and restaurants nearby

Locations

Baja Sardinia is an ample bay which starts at the Archipelago of La Maddalena and is one of the most renowned locations on the Costa Smeralda. Baja Sardinia combines the beauty of the landscapes, its historic legacy and its manmade artwork.

It’s a quiet place, appropriate for families, immersed in green and enriched with an ample white beach which is easily accessible. It’s surrounded by one of the most beautiful seas in Italy and is a few km from famous villas of stars, soccer/football players and international finance tycoons.

Poltu Quatu is a short distance from Baja Sardinia with a lovely little square, bars and restaurants where you can spend a pleasant evening.

Heart of the Costa Smeralda, it’s famous for its 'passeggiata' (long walk) which begins at the port where immense yachts arrive daily and goes to the town square in Porto Cervo. It’s a famous square. Constructed in the 1960’s by Prince Karim Aga Khan. It has bars, music and shops with the most exclusive shops.

Porto Rotondo is a series of wooden docks and green passages around the marina. You’ll find restaurants, ice-cream shops and sought after shopping surrounding the sailboats and other boats as they wait in the harbour.

Cannigione is unique for its coves and for the green colour of the sea which are tinged from the vegetation that grows right into it. It’s a small village located on the gulf waters and makes for a pleasant walk along the sea to the small church in the square.

San Pantaleo is an inland granite village hosting artisan shops and an interesting market in the central square. The village is surrounded by impressive granite rocks which take on a red, pinkish glow at dusk that is worth seeing. It has with time taken on the role of art development and trade with expositions in the emporiums around the square.

L’arcipelago della Maddalena, has been a protected reserve for the last few years, can be reached by boats leaving daily from the Baja Sardinia beach. After having seen the most beautiful islands, (Caprera, La Maddalena, Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli e Santa Maria) the boat will bring you back in the late afternoon.

For those that are interested, two of the islands are reachable by car (Caprera e La Maddalena) thanks to a maritime connection between Palau and La Maddalena which is connected to Caprera island with an impressive iron bridge. The island of Caprera is home not only to an uncontaminated land, rich in pine forests which extend until charming beaches with pink granite cliffed beaches, it also happens to be where Giuseppe Garibaldi’s famous home is located.

Sport

Are you looking for things to do in Costa Smeralda? This place offers you the opportunity to do sport. Art, Archaeology and natural monuments

Art in this part of Sardinia is antique nuragica (a Sard civilization from the bronze age), but the wind has sculpted as many natural works of art into the granite rocks running along the coast.

Valle della Luna e Capo Testa in the community of Santa Teresa di Gallura is an example of the over powering force the sea and the wind can be in this part of the coastline which have sculpted suggestive figures in the rocks overhanging the sea, coloured by an uncontaminated valley 500 meters long partly inhabited by a community of hippies.

The Church in Stella Maris in Porto Cervo is an innovative model of sacred architecture made in the 60’s at the dawning of the Costa Smeralda. One particularity is the dominance of round shapes and the total absence of corners and angles in the structure.

The Aggius museum has two options available to tourists: The Ethnographic and Bandit museums. It organizes laboratories with clothing, ancient games, doll making and wool working not to mention nature walks and courses on natural remedies and the distillation of essential oils from the plants found in Gallura.

The Museum of the diocese of Tempio – Ampurias, signifies an integrated system of ecclesiastic museums which are found among important cultural sites in northern Sardinia: You pass by the Museum of Castelsardo Cathedral, with its hidden treasures in the medieval walls, to the La Maddalena museum which jealously guards its candelabras donated by Lord Horatio Nelson, protagonist of the famous battle at Trafalgar, to the Ampuriense museum with its treasures in the cathedral.

Wine

The Surrau wine cellar organizes wine and local product tasting tours. Situated on 50 hectares of land with granite sand and clay plains caressed by the Mistral breeze, they produce Vermentino, Cannonau, Carignano, Muristello and Cabernet Sauvignon.
